VERNON, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man is facing animal cruelty and other charges for allegedly mutilating a rabbit while driving.

WTIC-TV reports that 25-year-old Patryck Sochocki appeared in court on Wednesday.

Police say the New Britain man was pulled over last month after he was spotted swerving on Route 32 in Willington. Police say his shirt had white fur on it. According to police, they found scissors with blood on them in the vehicle and a rabbit with its hind legs cut off. Police say he also had drug paraphernalia in the car.

The rabbit was taken to a veterinary hospital where it was euthanized.

State records indicate Sochocki was released on $5,000 bond after pleading not guilty.

Both he and his attorney refused comment outside of court.
