April 17, 2019

Lois S. Hendrickson, 91, formerly of Cambria, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Lois was born Sept. 9, 1927, the daughter of Daniel B. and Rozella (Gorman) Slattery, at home in Doylestown. She attended Engle Country School and was a 1945 graduate of Randolph High School. She worked at Farmer’s & Merchant Bank in Columbus and then with Equitable Insurance in Madison. While at a dance, Lois met the love of her life and was united in marriage to Donald Hendrickson on June 3, 1950, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Doylestown. Together, they farmed on the outskirts of Cambria, raising a family and were active with the local 4-H Welsh Prairie Livewires with their children.

Lois worked outside of home with Michigan Fruit (Del Monte) Canning Co. for a number of years, both seasonally and then full-time in the office. She finally retired after 28 years with the National Exchange Bank in Cambria. Although she retired, she continued to help with chores on the family farm, alongside her sons and grandsons. Lois enjoyed dancing and traveled near and far to follow the “Don Peachy Band” over the years. In her free time, Lois loved to follow her grandsons in all of their sporting events and with her granddaughter to her horse shows. Lois was a member of Cozy Corners Homemakers Club and was also a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Doylestown.

Lois will be sadly missed and mourned by her children, Joan (James) Farrington of Rio, Philip Hendrickson of Cambria, Janet (Gary) Walker of Kingston, and Neal (Pam) Hendrickson of Cambria; nine grandchildren, Denise (Curt) Wheeler, Andrew (Mackenzie), Daniel (Mandy), Timothy (Jessica), Michael (Jessica), Christopher (Sara), Allan Moll, Joshua (Jenny) Walker and Jeremy Walker; 20 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; several other relatives; and dear friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Don, on July 22, 2012; her daughter-in-law Elaine Hendrickson; a brother Glen Slattery; a sister, Eileen Slattery; and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Doylestown, with Father Garrett Kau officiating.
