Hotel Emma in San Antonio gets prestigious Five Diamond award from AAA
AAA has awarded Hotel Emma its Five Diamond designation, a highly coveted prize in the hospitality industry that’s only been granted to one other hotel in Texas.
The Five Diamond designation places the boutique hotel in the Pearl development near downtown San Antonio among some of the best hotels in the country. Less than 1 percent of about 27,000 AAA Inspected & Approved hotels receive the rating, hotel officials said in a news release Wednesday.
The association said in January that 121 hotels had earned the designation for 2018. The Ritz-Carlton hotel in Dallas is the only other Texas hotel to receive the rating.

“We are honored to receive the prestigious AAA Five Diamond Award designation,” Bill Petrella, Hotel Emma president and general manager, said in a news release Wednesday. “This award reflects the commitment of our staff and management to provide every guest with exceptional hospitality throughout their entire visit. I’m so proud of the entire Hotel Emma team for their hard work and dedication.”
Hotels that receive the Five Diamond designation are subjected to a rigorous and stealthy process including in-person inspections, anonymous overnight stays and a review by a panel of experts, according to AAA.
Winners typically employ experienced staff and feature “extraordinary physical attributes, meticulous personalized service, extensive amenities and impeccable standards of excellence,” the hotel said in the release.
“AAA is pleased to recognize Hotel Emma with the Five Diamond Rating, meaning its unwavering attention to both service and surroundings have placed it into the upper echelon of AAA Inspected & Approved hotels,” Michael Petrone, director of AAA Inspections & Diamond Ratings, said in a statement. “Five Diamond properties consistently exceed expectations to deliver a highly personalized, memorable experience far above the ordinary.”
Hotel Emma has racked up some notable accolades since its 2015 opening.
The hotel was named the 19th-best hotel in the world and third-best in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler’s 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards and 10th-best by Trip Advisor’s 2017 Travelers’ Choice awards.
Last April, Food & Wine magazine deemed Hotel Emma one of the world’s 40 best “food-centric hotels.”
