Cartoonist George Lemont Dies

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Cartoonist George W. Lemont, whose strip Dr. Smock was syndicated to more than 200 newspapers throughout the world for more than a decade, has died of a stroke. He was 63.

The United Features cartoonist, who died Saturday, also was a local television personality during the 1950s. He wrote and narrated the KRON children’s show, ″Fireman Frank,″ which featured a rooster named Rhode Island Red.

Lemont is survived by his wife, Tosca.
