DANBURY — Several local schools are on lockdown while police search for an armed person after a man was shot near Danbury Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Children at after-school programs at Ellsworth Avenue, Hayestown Avenue and Broadview Middle schools are on lockdown because of their proximity to the hospital while police search the area, school officials said.

Western Connecticut State University also is on lockdown as of about 4 p.m.

Danbury Hospital is under limited lockdown “only as a precaution,” a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police were not able to immediately provide more information about the incident.
