Community baby shower treats expecting parents
HUNTINGTON — More than 100 parents-to-be went home with a basket full of baby supplies during the fourth annual Cabell County Community Baby Shower on Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Conference Center in Huntington.
In addition to an armful of necessities, including diapers, lotion, clothing, bibs and pacifiers, 105 registered parents — including 60 newcomers this year — connected with community resources specializing in helping young families, and met other expecting parents, too.
Parents from all kinds of circumstances benefited, though for some, the event may be the only baby gifts they’ll receive, said April Knight, family resource specialist with Mountain State Healthy Families.
“No matter what your financial situation, every new mom is nervous and doesn’t know exactly what all they need or need to know,” Knight said.
Parents were treated to a series of educational presentations by local health providers over lunch, covering topics including childbirth, breastfeeding and the role of fathers.
