64 impaired drivers arrested during You Drink and Drive, You Lose holiday campaign
LINCOLN - The national You Drink and Drive, You Lose holiday campaign that the Nebraska State Patrol took part in is now over.
The campaign which was made possible by a grant of $25,000 from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office ran from December 14th through January 1st.
Public Relations Director Cody Thomas said the campaign resulted in 64 arrests for drunk or drugged driving along with other citations and arrests.
“We issued a little more than 1,000 citations for speeding, 75 for no proof of insurance and 54 for minor in possession. We also arrested more than 70 people for either possession of drugs or reckless driving.”
Thomas said troopers also helped 787 motorists in need of assistance with many of those coming during the recent winter storm that ran across the state.
Colonel John Bolduc said troopers and dispatchers worked hard over the last several weeks to take impaired drivers off the road and ensure safe roads for all of Nebraska.
