Prosecutors seek convicted Wyoming doctor’s assets

June 29, 2019

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Prosecutors have asked a judge to award the federal government hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of property and cash accumulated by a Wyoming doctor who was found guilty of operating a multi-state prescription drug conspiracy blamed for the death of an Arizona woman in 2015.

The Casper Star-Tribune reported Friday the request involving Shakeel Kahn lists two sports cars, a pickup, several homes, eight bank accounts and half a million dollars in cash. Prosecutors say the property and cash is linked to an illegal scheme to sell prescriptions for powerful painkillers, muscle relaxers and anti-anxiety drugs.

Kahn was convicted in May of all 21 charges against him, and his brother, Nabeel Kahn, was convicted of two counts.

Shakeel Kahn says he followed the law while trying to help his patients treat chronic pain.
