Group gets federal grant to protect Civil War battlefield
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia group has received a $103,400 federal grant to help protect a Civil War battlefield.
U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins says the Nicholas County Farmland Protection Board has received the grant to protect the Battle of Kessler’s Cross Roads battlefield. The grant is from the National Park Service.
Jenkins say the grant will be used to acquire a 99-acre (40-hectare) portion of the battlefield.
The grant is from the Park Service’s American Battlefield Protection Program. The program works to preserve historic battlefields in the U.S.
