Inmate dies after found unresponsive in Lowndes County jail
COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — Officers say an inmate has died after being found unresponsive in his cell at a county jail in northern Mississippi.
The Commercial Dispatch reports 38-year-old James Bradley West died Monday in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
The newspaper reports he is the fourth inmate to die in the jail since November 2017.
The jail administrator, Capt. Ryan Rickert, says West had been transferred there from the Monroe County jail.
Lowndes County Circuit Court records show that West was convicted of burglary of a dwelling and uttering forgery in 2004 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, with five years’ post-release supervision. In 2018, West was arrested for violating parole and his sentence was revoked. He was awaiting a new sentencing.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into his death.
