Wine, beer tasting supports theater

SCHUYLER — Schuyler Sertoma will host a wine- and beer-tasting event 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Schuyler Golf Club, 295 Higgins Drive.

James Arthur Vineyards, Didier’s Grocery and Deano’s Liquor will have wine and rum samples. Beer tasting will be offered by Upstream Brewing Company, Dusters/Gottberg Brew Pub, Empyrean Brewing Co. and Lazlo’s.

Cost is $15 per person or $12 in advance. Advance tickets are available at Agri-City Insurance in Schuyler. The tasting event will include the alcohol samples and food pairings. There will also be a silent auction and wine for sale.

Proceeds will benefit the Colfax Theatre.

CPPD requests notifications

COLUMBUS -- Cornhusker Public Power District customers considering a new or upgraded electrical service are asked to contact the utility’s engineering department as soon as possible at 402-564-2821.

Engineering department hours are 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

“It is important our engineering department has time to conduct load profile/interconnection studies to determine if the new service will require any electrical service upgrades,” said CPPD CEO and general manager Clay Gibbs.

Transfer station seasonal hours

COLUMBUS -- The yard waste site at the Columbus transfer station will close at 5 p.m. through Nov. 30.

Winter season hours will begin Dec. 1. Those hours are 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

Open house, sales at school

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Christian School, 3418 15th St., will have an open house from 4:30-7:30 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Saturday.

The Columbus Christian School Foundation is also holding a garage sale 4:30-7:30 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Saturday and auction beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday to raise money to demolish the old Highland Park School next spring.

Auction items will be from an estate purchased and donated to the foundation. The auction will be held in a tent at the school, located at 3418 15th St.

Festival of Trees coming soon

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Women’s Club will hold its annual Festival of Trees Nov. 16-19 in the lower level of Columbus Public Library.

Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the door, with a cookie and beverage included. Hours are noon-8 p.m. Nov. 16; noon-4:30 p.m. Nov. 17-18; and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 19. The event will include a raffle and sweet shop.
