West U offers two locations for holiday light recycling

January 7, 2019

Do you have holiday lights that didn’t survive the holidays; or lights that no longer suit your needs? Don’t throw them away! Recycle them.

The city of West University Place has two convenient drop off locations: Public Works Administration , located at 3826 Amherst, and the Community Building, located at 6104 Auden. Lights will be accepted Monday - Friday between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm.

The collection bins will be available through Thursday, Jan. 10.

Residents wishing to recycle lights after this date may do so at the City’s bi-annual e-waste collection event that occurs the first Saturday in May and November. Only string lights are accepted. Items such as flood lights, extension cords and light hooks are not recycled in this program. A separate tree collection is currently underway via curbside recycling.

Recycling holiday lights keeps them from ending up in landfills, which extends the life of the landfill and means less landfill space is needed.
