WYOMING — State troopers said they issued more than 1,100 traffic citations during a two-day period last month during an operation dubbed “Rocking the 80s.” Troopers from several barracks focused on aggressive traffic enforcement on interstates 80, 81, 84, 180 and 380 from June 15-16. Troopers said they wanted to promote safety and deter criminal activity ahead of the Fourth of July and summer travel season. During the two day period, troopers issued 1,188 citations, including 551 for speeding, 22 for seat belt violations, 26 for driving with a suspended license, 499 other violations. Troopers also made five driving under the influence arrests as well as nine misdemeanor and two felony arrests. Police said they will continue to have enhanced coverage for the Fourth of July, and will conduct DUI checkpoints and roving patrols across the state. — JAMES HALPIN
