Fitchburg man rescued from river dies
FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) — An 85-year-old man pulled from a car that had flipped on its roof in the Nashua River in Fitchburg last weekend has died.
Police and a spokesman for UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester say Rene Boudreau died late Monday. His wife, 80-year-old Marie Boudreau, remains hospitalized.
The couple was pulled from a car that rolled into the river Sunday morning. Both were unresponsive when rescued, but were later revived at the hospital.
Police say it appears that Marie Boudreau was driving, and accidentally accelerated while in reverse, sending the car down an embankment and into about three feet of water. The car landed on its roof.
