Greg Gabriel: Tracking this year’s first round NFL Draft picks

September 26, 2017 GMT

When a player is drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft, many fans believe that he is supposed to have an instant impact.

With some players that is the case, but with others it’s a learning process just as all the rest of the rookies go through. That said, this is what the 2017 NFL Draft first round players have done to date.

Myles Garrett – DE – Cleveland: He has yet to play due to a high ankle sprain suffered late in the preseason.

Mitch Trubisky – QB – Chicago: Though he out-played starter Mike Glennon in the preseason, Trubisky has yet to play. Most feel he will become the starter within the next few weeks.

Solomon Thomas - DE – San Francisco: He has been a starter since day one on the 49ers defensive line. Has seven total tackles and no sacks to date.

Leonard Fournette – RB – Jacksonville: Is a starter and is the Jags leading rusher with 199 yards on 59 carries and has added 66 yards on eight receptions. He has scored three times.

Corey Davis - WR – Tennessee: Is a starter but he has been limited due to injuries. He has seven receptions for 73 yards in two games played.

Jamal Adams – S – New York Jets: Starting at safety and a key player for the Jets with 11 total tackles.

Mike Williams – WR – Los Angeles Chargers: Has not played yet due to injury.

Christian McCaffrey – RB – Carolina: He is not really a starter but he is a key player. Plays RB, slot receiver and returns kicks. Has run for 73 yards and has 18 receptions but he has not scored yet in three games played.

John Ross – WR – Cincinnati: Has also been bothered by injuries and has yet to record a reception this season.

Patrick Mahomes – QB – Kansas City: The plan has been for Patrick to be Alex Smith’s backup this year. Unless Smith gets injured or a game is a blowout, Mahomes won’t see action.

Marshon Lattimore – CB – New Orleans: He’s a starter at corner, but missed the Saints last game because of a concussion. Has 11 total tackles and no interceptions.

Deshaun Watson – QB – Houston: He replaced Tom Savage after the first game as the Texans starting quarterback. He’s completed 49 of 80 throws for 528 yards and three touchdowns.

Haason Reddick – LB – Arizona: Starts at inside linebacker and has 18 total tackles. Played outside at Temple and has really done well with the conversion inside.

Derek Barnett – DE – Philadelphia: Derek is a backup at defensive end but he gets significant playing time each game. Still developing.

Malik Hooker – S – Indianapolis: Was brought along slowly in the preseason because of his hip injury but is a starter at safety. He has recorded nine total tackles and two interceptions in the Colts three games.

Marlon Humphrey – CB – Baltimore: Marlon is a backup at corner and has recorded two total tackles.

Jonathan Allen – DT – Washington: Starts at right end in the Washington 3-4 and has recorded seven total tackles. He got his first sack this past Sunday vs Oakland.

Adoree Jackson – CB – Tennessee: He’s a starter at corner and has already recorded 14 total tackles. He has also returned both punts and kickoffs. Is averaging 13.9 yards on his eight punt returns.

O.J. Howard – TE – Tampa Bay: Not a starter, but plays a lot and has two receptions for 29 yards.

Garrett Bolles – OT – Denver: Starts at left tackle for the Broncos, got a leg injury in game two and he was questionable to play last week vs Buffalo but he lined up and played the whole game. He’s playing soled football.

Jarrad Davis - LB – Detroit: Starts at the Mike linebacker and has played very well. Has 15 total tackles and a fumble recovery to date.

Charles Harris – DE – Miami: Is a backup at defensive end and hasn’t done a lot to date. Only has two total tackles.

Evan Engram – TE – New York Giants: Not listed as a starter, but plays a huge role in the Giants offense. He already has 13 receptions and a touchdown in the Giants first three games.

Gareon Conley – CB – Oakland: Because of injury he didn’t get to play until Week 2. Has played well the last two games with seven total tackles.

Jabrill Peppers – S – Cleveland: Has been a starter at safety since the preseason and already has 14 total tackles.

Takk McKinley – DE – Atlanta: He is not a starter but plays a lot in passing situations. Has four total tackles and a sack to date.

Tre’Davious White – CB – Buffalo: Starts at corner and while he has had some growing pains, his overall play has been very good. Has one interception and 16 total tackles.

Taco Charlton – DE – Dallas: Backup at defensive end. Has not done much, with only two total tackles.

David Njoku – TE – Cleveland: David is a backup who gets significant playing time. Has seven receptions to date, two of which have gone for touchdowns.

T.J. Watt – OLB – Pittsburgh: Missed the Steelers last game because of injury but has played very well. In the Steelers first two games he had nine total tackles and two sacks.

Ryan Ramczyk – OT – New Orleans: Ryan is the current starter at left tackle for the Saints and is playing well.
