Mayor George’s Failed Promise To The People

April 20, 2019 GMT

Editor: Mayor Tony George agreed to give city employees a raise of 2.5 percent starting in 2020 and an increase of 3 percent in 2021 and 2022. With a 2 percent signing bonus for 2019. However, the current rate of inflation is 1.9 percent. Where’s the beef? Also, they will need to start paying a deductible for their health insurance. A $250 deductible for single coverage and $500 for family. These deductibles will be increased to $350 single and $700 family in 2022. In 2022, employees with HMO coverage will need to pay 5 percent of their health insurance premium cost and employees with a PPO coverage will contribute 10 percent of the cost. Caps are set at $1,200 for single coverage and $2,200 for all other plans, which comes out of their paychecks and takes away from any pay increases. I wonder how long it will take for these employees to feel the pain of being had. There is nothing there to help these employees. Benefits go only to the city not the employee. Mayor George promised to help the people. Instead a campaign promise made equals another failed promise to the people. John J. Bryan WILKES-BARRE
