Riquelme to run to retain judge seat
Skagit County Superior Court Judge Laura Riquelme announced Thursday she will run to retain her seat.
Riquelme was appointed by Gov. Jay Inslee to the court on June 26. She filled a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Michael Rickert.
She previously was appointed by Inslee in 2016 to fill a Superior Court vacancy created by the retirement of Susan Cook.
Riquelme has spent her entire legal career in Skagit County — as a prosecutor, a public defender, a judge pro tem and a superior court judge, according to a news release.
Riquelme is involved in Community Action of Skagit County and Skagit Women in Business.
The election for county Superior Court judge position 2 will be held Nov. 6, with a primary Aug. 7 if more than two candidates file.
Skagit County Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Rosemary Kaholokula announced in February she will also run for the position.
