Martin Kuipers

Martin J. Kuipers, 66, of Bonfield, passed away on Tuesday (April 17, 2018) at Elmhurst Community Hospital.

He was born on July 14, 1951, in Watseka, the son of William and Alice Corte Kuipers. He married Carol Campen on June 3, 1973, in Benson.

Martin retired from Cognis, having worked as a maintenance planner. He and his wife, Carol, were very involved in NOMADS. He also was involved with ERT (Early Response Team). Martin was a member of the Kankakee Masonic Lodge 389, where he had served as master. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Chicago. Martin was a member of Medinah Shriners, where he had served as a potentate’s aide and chief potentate’s aide. He was a past president of the Kankakee Shrine Club and also served as parade chairman of the Camel Caravan for a number of years. He was very involved with Bonfield Evangelical United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees. Martin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife, of Bonfield; one son and one daughter-in-law, John (Michelle) Kuipers, of Clifton; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Barb (Donald) Paetsch, of Herscher, and Becky (Christopher) Loyd, of Bradley; six grandchildren, Miranda and McKenzie Paetsch, A.J., Benjamin and Logan Kuipers and Mathew Loyd; and two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Rodger (Eloise) Kuipers, of Bonfield, and Donald (Alice) Kuipers, of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William Kuipers.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 20, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. An additional visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service at Bonfield Evangelical United Methodist Church in Bonfield. The Rev. Mel Nielsen will officiate. Burial will follow in Bonfield Cemetery in Bonfield.

Memorials may be made to Bonfield Evangelical United Methodist Church or Shriners Hospital.
