Colorado ICE activists target detention center warden’s home
AURORA, Colo. (AP) — Colorado protesters demanding the end to immigrant incarceration have targeted the neighborhood of the top official in charge of Aurora’s privately run detention center.
The Aurora Sentinel reports that two immigrant-rights activist groups Denver Communists and Abolish ICE Denver began protesting at a park Thursday before making their way to the home of facility warden Johnny Choate.
Authorities say about 100 protesters circled the residence with signs and flags where police stood armed with rifles in the driveway.
Protesters say the event was an important way to get their message across that normal, since civil discourse has taken place and made no difference.
Those opposed to the protest say it is wrong to protest a man at his home for a job he is contracted to do.
