S.C.’s King wins three events in meet
Makenna King of South Central won the vault (9.75), uneven bars (9.6) and balance beam (9.4) in a gymnastics meet at Lowell with Portage, Hobart and Washington Township on Thursday. King did not compete in floor exercise.
Ernie Banks book to be released
Author Doug Wilson will hold a book signing and discussion on Let’s Play Two: The Life and Times of Ernie Banks, the first complete biography of the famed Mr. Cub, at 1 p.m. on March 2 at The Getaway Grille and Cubbies Bar in Bridgman, Mich. The book, to be released Feb. 15, sheds insight into Banks’ personality and his impact on the game and fans.
La Porte athletic schedule changes
The boys swim sectional originally scheduled at La Porte on Feb. 14 & 16 will now be at Chesterton High School. The Slicers JV & varsity boys basketball home games versus Goshen on Feb. 16 will now be played on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Slicer Gym. La Porte will be one of the northern hosts for the girls basketball semistate on Feb. 16.
Yeti Race on Feb. 24
The Crazy Legs Race Series will host the Yeti Half Trail run at 8 a.m. on Feb. 24 at Bluhm County Park in Westville. Trails maybe muddy, wet or snowy, so runners are urged to come prepared for the conditions. The course is three loops around the park with one aid station that is passed twice. Hydration packs are allowed. All runners receive a winter hat and gloves as well as a finisher’s medal. Runners have four hours, 30 minutes to complete the course. City-Marian boys game moved
Due to Mishawaka Marian’s appearance in Saturday’s girls basketball regional, Michigan City’s boys away game with the Knights has been moved to Feb. 19. The JV game starts at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity game following.
Blazers boys hoops schedule changes
Marquette and Illiana Christian will make up their boys basketball game on Thursday in a tripleheader at the Scholl Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. The two teams were originally scheduled to play Jan. 23, but inclement weather forced the postponement. The C-Team contest will tip off at 4:30 with the junior varsity tilt slated for 5:30. The varsity game will tip off at about 7. Additionally, the Blazers’ game at East Chicago Central on Saturday has been moved up from a 5:30/7 JV-varsity doubleheader to a noon/1:30 twin bill.
