March 4, 2018 GMT

The Philadelphia Flower Show is the region’s yearly spring preview that dates back to 1829. Drawing 250,000 visitors annually to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the 2018 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, “Wonders of Water,” will “celebrate the beauty and life-sustaining interplay of horticulture and water.”

Produced by the non-profit Pennsylvania Horticultural society (PHS), proceeds from the Flower Show benefit year-round regional programs that have become national models of sustainable urban greening.

“Each visitor to the Flower Show becomes a partner in our transformative work by purchasing a ticket, attending special events and attractions, and, we hope, joining PHS as a member,” PHS President Matt Rader said in a statement. “We are very grateful for the amazing support we receive through the Flower Show and its impact we see every day on so many lives.”

According to PHS’ media release, the PHS network “includes more than 4,800 Tree Tenders, over 2,300 Garden Tenders, 157 returning citizens engaged through the Roots to Re- Entry and LandCare Re-Entry programs, and 970 educators trained in building school gardens and 11,000 students having participated in Junior Flower Shows. … The network includes more than 150 active community gardens and urban farms supported through PHS City Harvest, 1,800 street trees planted each year by Tree Tenders, 100 acres of organically maintained public gardens and landscapes, 12,000 vacant lots maintained through the LandCare programs and 2,400 homes with green stormwater infrastructure created through the Rain Check program.”
