Police spend 6 hours probing false bomb threat at NY church

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Schenectady, New York have spent six hours investigating a bomb threat at a church that turned out to be false.

The Schenectady Police Department says in a news release that someone called police at 2 p.m. Friday claiming there were “multiple explosive devices” inside the First Reformed Church. Police say the caller also said someone was inside the church with a weapon.

Multiple police agencies were called in and officers swept the inside of the church as well as the surrounding area. The all-clear was given at about 8 p.m.

Police say no explosive devices were found and no one was inside the church.

Police have not made any arrests.
