Jury acquits San Antonio man in fatal East Side killing
A Bexar County jury on Friday acquitted a San Antonio man of murder in the death of a 33-year-old man who was shot to death on an East Side street in 2016.
Xavier Johnson was 22 when he was arrested and charged with murder in the death of Christopher Dotson, who was shot multiple times June 27, 2016, in the 1200 block of Center Street.
Jurors began hearing testimony Tuesday and began deliberating in the case around noon Thursday. State District Judge Joey Contreras, who presided over the case, let the panel go around 4 p.m. Thursday. They returned this morning at 8:30 a.m. and deliberated nonstop until they reached their verdict around 1:15 p.m.

As Contreras read the verdict, spectators in the courtroom erupted on both sides, with Dotson’s family members crying and Johnson’s cheering.
Johnson, now 24, remains in the Bexar County jail on a separate charge of aggravated assault that is not related to the Dotson case.
This is a developing story.
