Elks announces Teens of Month

COLUMBUS -- Marina Jimenez-Caballero and Shonda Shanle have been chosen as the Elks Teens of the Month for December.

Jimenez-Caballero, the daughter of Zenon and Elia Jimenez, is a senior at Lakeview High School. She is president of the National Honor Society and a drum major for the band. She also serves as president for the Multicultural Club and Science Club. Other areas of activity include robotics, athletic training, cross country, basketball and soccer, and she is a student leader for Youth for Christ. Her hobbies include reading, running, playing sports, listening to music and volunteering.

Shanle, the daughter of Brian and Holly Shanle, is a senior at St. Edward Public School. She is president of the student council and FCCLA. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and one act, and a mentor. She plays volleyball, basketball and track, participates in speech and takes football stats. Her hobbies include spending time with friends, painting, playing sports, playing with her nephew, walking her dog, listening to music, reading and airsoft.

Samayoa on honor roll at Wesleyan

SALINA, Kan. -- Jonathan Samayoa of Columbus was one of 150 Kansas Wesleyan University students named to the dean’s honor roll for the fall semester.

Full-time students with a semester grade-point average of 3.25-3.74 and no incomplete courses qualify for this honor at the end of each semester.

Chadron recognizes academic honorees

CHADRON -- Chadron State College has announced students earning honors for the fall semester.

Students on the president’s list earned a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average while enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of coursework. The following area students are among those honored: Columbus - Whitney Coop, Melissa VanDerslice; David City - Krystina Skretta; Leigh - Kolton Held.

The following area students qualified for the dean’s list with a minimum 3.5 grade-point average while enrolled in 12 credit hours of coursework: Bellwood – William Reiter; Columbus - Emily Hand, Ethan Lesiak; Schuyler – Ethan Bergt.

SCC announces dean’s list

LINCOLN -- Southeast Community College has released its dean’s list for the quarter recently completed on the Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford campuses.

The following area students are among those honored: Columbus - Jonathan Lovell, land surveying/civil engineering technology; Weston Martensen, John Deere tech; Schuyler - Triston Palensky, Ford-auto student service education training program.

To be recognized on the SCC dean’s list, a student must complete at least six quarter credit hours of the term with a minimum grade-point average of 3.5.
