ASHEVILLE, N.C.—Former Tolsia standout Coty Jude received national recognition Monday when he was chosen as Big South Men’s Basketball Freshman of the week.

Jude dominated during his time at Tolsia, earning himself a scholarship to further his career at UNC Asheville, a place he has excelled.

Jude’s performance last week was second to none. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 13 points per game, snatched 2.5 rebounds and shot 46.7 percent from the field. Jude also added a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.

Both of Jude’s performances came against top notched opponents in No. 8 Auburn and Western Carolina.

Jude finished with eight points against Auburn and 18 points in Western Carolina’s matchup.

“Honestly doesn’t even seem real. If someone would’ve told me last year that I would be in the position I’m in now, I would’ve told them they were crazy. I’m extremely blessed to have this opportunity and it has been something I have worked incredibly hard for,” Jude said.

The freshman is no stranger to hard work, even while back home in Glenhayes, Jude is back at Rebel Arena pushing himself to be better everyday.

“Everyday I have a chance to further the opportunity I’ve been given and I am very fortunate to be able to come into a program and make an impact as a freshman,” he said

The league made the official announcement for Jude’s accolade on Monday after the back-to-back top performances.

The Jude and the Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday on the road at Wofford with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
