Cat Raises Kittens in Bird’s Nest
September 3, 1996
OSLO, Norway (AP) _ When it was time for Missa the cat to give birth, her owners were away. So she moved into the house next door: a magpie nest.
When the Muren family returned to their home near the west coast town of Aalesund, they realized their cat had become a mother, the Sunnmoerposten newspaper reported Tuesday.
But they couldn’t find the kittens.
Then the Murens heard very unbirdlike sounds coming from their tree.
``We heard mewing, but couldn’t figure out where it was coming from,″ Berit Muren told the newspaper. ``It wasn’t until we looked up that we realized the mewing was coming from a magpie’s nest.″
Missa and her five kittens were doing well. No birds were injured, since they had already left the nest.
