Middle school students wrapping presents to help give students in Kenya new school uniforms
SYCAMORE – Students at Sycamore Middle School are partnering with an organization in Kenya to help raise money to give school uniforms to children in need.
Sycamore Middle School students from various clubs will be wrapping presents for donation from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sycamore Middle School, 150 Maplewood Drive, to help Teule Kenya, which is a Christian nonprofit organization that helps children who are abandoned, orphaned, abused or neglected to be placed in a safe and secure home. For every $20 donated, one child the organization helps will be able to get a new school uniform.
Megan Gallagly, a seventh-grade language arts teacher at Sycamore Middle School and one of the event organizers, said the event also ties in with seventh-grade curriculum, where students read a novel set in Sudan and Kenya. She said anybody that comes to the event can get their gifts wrapped, whether they’re residents of Sycamore or beyond.
