16-year-old died after falling off embankment
LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — A 16-year-old Vader, Washington, youth died when he fell off a steep, 60-foot (18 meter) embankment along the Cowlitz River near the Cowlitz-Lewis County Line.
The Longview Daily News reports that the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office said Monday that Tristan Allen Vandel was declared dead at the scene late Friday night.
Coroner Tim Davidson said he died from blunt force head and neck trauma.
The death was listed as an accident.
Counselors and the Cowlitz County sheriff’s chaplain offered grief counseling Monday at Castle Rock High School, where Tristan was a student.
Tristan was camping in the area with some friends when he slipped off the embankment at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.
