St. John’s hosts Svyati Duo recital Sunday
The Svyati Duo, from the United Kingdom, will perform a recital at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 11 Fourth Ave. SW, Rochester.
The duo consists of Rebecca Hepplewhite on cello and Julian Collings on organ. They are reported to be the only cello-organ duo in the UK.
Svyati Duo takes its name from Sir John Tavener’s “Svyati” for solo cello and choir, the first piece on which Hepplewhite and Collings collaborated. Since forming in 2009, Svyati Duo has recorded three albums, and performed in venues of all sizes, from town halls to cathedrals.
Individually, both artists keep up busy touring schedules. Collings is also director of music at historic St. Cyprian’s Church in London. Hepplewhite plays with several chamber ensembles, and has performed in the U.S., Asia and Africa.
The Rochester concert will includes works by Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, Joseph Rheinberger and Astor Piazzola.
Admission is a freewill offering.
