Tree falls at CWU onto University Way

September 14, 2017

No one was hurt and no cars were damaged when a birch tree fell on Central Washington University’s campus on Wednesday.

The tree fell in front of Lind Hall at 3 p.m. next to University Way, briefly blocking traffic. It was cleared within 15 minutes, said Kremiere Jackson, vice president of public affairs.

At this point, it is unclear why the tree toppled, she said.

The university regularly assesses trees and large shrubs on campus for stability and safety, and is looking into what happened, she said.

“Part of the tree is still standing, and we’ll be removing the stump and doing some planting,” she said.
