- Clay Vaughn, a 2017 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School, has been name to Academic All-State team for baseball. Clay will attend Indiana University in the Fall. • - Madison Consolidated High School’s football program will its 2017 Youth Camp July 24-25 at the high school practice field. The camp will run between 6:30-8 p.m. each day for kids in grades one through six. The cost of the camp is $20, which includes a camp T-shirt. Registration will be taken up until the start of camp. • - Big Oaks National Wildlife Reserve will host a “Take a Kid Fishing Day” on Saturday, July 8 from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The purpose of the event is to promote youth recreational fishing and public use on the refuge. Kids 15 years old or younger and an accompanying adult may access the refuge for this free fishing opportunity. Activity booths include a kids casting contest, make your own cane pole, hover archery, and learning about reptiles and amphibians. A limited number of free fishing packets will be available for the kids so come early to get your packet while they last. Free refreshments including hot dogs, chips, soda, and cookies be available from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. All state and refuge fishing regulations will apply for this free fishing day but state fishing licenses will be waived for the event. Approximate drive time to the lake from the refuge office is 30 minutes; please check-in to the office no later than 11 a.m. on the day of the event to participate in activities. Contact the refuge office at (812) 273-0783 for more info. • - The Madison Soccer Camp will be held July 10-27 at the soccer fields at Madison Junior High School. Kids in grades first through third grade will go from 8-9:30 a.m. on July 10, 12, 17, 19, 24 and 26. Kids in grades fourth through eighth grade will go from 8-9:30 a.m. on July 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 and 27. In each session, players will learn the fundamentals of soccer including tactics, language and positions. The camp is taught by Madison High School girls soccer coach Janet Hertz. Cost is $5 per day or $45 for the summer. Proceeds will go to support this year’s Hanover Fest, a party for Hanover College, the Town of Hanover and Southwestern School System at Hanover College on Sept. 2. Cost is $200 per team and mulligans will be sold. The event will distribute $1,400 in prize money plus other prizes for par threes, long drive and door prizes. Craig Toyota is sponsoring a car for hole-in-one opportunity. The rain date is 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 9. For more info, call the golf course at (812) 569-1833.
