7 nominated for appointment to fill Utah high court vacancy
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A state commission has nominated four judges and three other attorneys for appointment by Gov. Gary Herbert to fill a Utah Supreme Court vacancy.
The vacancy is being created by the Nov. 16 retirement of Justice Christine Durham. A public comment period ends Oct. 2, and Herbert then has 30 days to make the appointment, which will be subject to confirmation by the state Senate.
The nominees include Judges Michele Christiansen and Jill Pohlman of the Utah Court of Appeals and District Court Judges Paige Petersen and Derek Pullan.
The other nominees are state ssistant Solicitor General Christopher Ballard, Salt Lake City Corporation City Attorney Margaret Plane and Terry Welch, a shareholder withf the Parr Brown Gee & Loveless law firm.
They were selected from 14 applicants.
