Advocate for immigrant rights being honored at MLK event
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — A longtime advocate for immigrant rights and integration is being honored at the 35th annual Martin Luther King Day Community Celebration in Manchester.
Eva Castillo is receiving an award at the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Monday afternoon. She is part of the Steering Committee for the New Hampshire Health Equity Initiative and the New Hampshire immigrant Integration Initiative. She chairs the Manchester Disproportionate Minority Contact committee and serves as a Manchester Police Commissioner and as vice chair of the Governor’s Commission of Latino Affairs.
Robert Azzi will deliver the keynote speech. Azzi is a photojournalist, columnist and public speaker on topics of Islamophobia, racism, anti-Semitism and nativism. He is known for his speaking program, “Ask a Muslim Anything.”
