Pedestrian hit by semi, flown to hospital with critical injuries

A pedestrian was critically injured Friday when she was struck by a semi along a highway between Baraboo and Reedsburg.

Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister said the female victim – who was not identified Friday – had parked her vehicle on Mirror Lake Road near its intersection with State Highway 33 prior to the incident.

For unknown reasons, Meister said, she was out of the vehicle and near the highway when she was struck by a semi truck headed east. Authorities were called to the scene around noon.

First responders closed the highway to eastbound and westbound traffic so a medical helicopter could land. The woman was transported to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison with critical injuries, Meister said.

It was not clear Friday whether any citations or charges may be filed related to the incident. Meister said the sheriff’s department still was investigating.
