Police: 2 people shot in Fayetteville hotel parking lot

Two people were shot around midnight Thursday in a Fayetteville hotel’s parking lot, police said.

Fayetteville police officers responded at 12:03 a.m. to the Extended Stay America Hotel at 408 Owen Dr. after the shooting was reported. When officers arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds.

The victims, identified as Malike Akeem Newsam, 24, of Fayetteville, and Antwan Kavan Lawrence, 29, of Hope Mills, were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

Authorities said Newsam was in stable condition Thursday afternoon while Lawrence had been transported to UNC Chapel Hill Hospital, where he remained in serious condition.
