Critics weigh in on UNESCO list of best S.A. tacos, bbq, margs
Last month Culinaria unveiled the San Antonio Food Trails, which aim to blaze a path through the city’s sprawling culinary scene. The trails are a list of the 10 best places for tacos, margaritas and barbecue in San Antonio, and launching them was one of the goals the city’s World Heritage Office included in its application to be named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, which was approved in 2017.
The trails are a terrific guide to some of the city’s best spots for a puro San Antonio experience, and we would know; the Taste Team has sampled the food and drink at every single entry on the lists. But there’s one important element missing from Culinaria’s lists: what to order once you ger there.
As San Antonio’s unrivaled experts on all things edible, we’re here to help fill in the gaps. We’ve named a specific menu item we can heartily endorse at each of the establishments on Culinaria’s food trails.
Well, I should say almost all of of the establishments.
The trails are a very solid representation of the city’s impressive dining scene. That being said, in our well-researched opinion, we believe a notable location or two were overlooked in the process. In the rare instance that our experience differs from the official trails, we offer an admirable alternative.
Whether you cruise through the whole list in a weekend or draw your visits out over a few months, this much we can assure: if you’re willing to trust our recommendations, you’ll be eating and drinking like San Antonio royalty.
