Megan Colleen Curran

June 24, 2018

Our angel mother, sister, auntie, daughter and friend, Megan Colleen Curran died at age 45 on June 21, 2018, at her mother’s home surrounded by her family. She fought the breast cancer beast valiantly and with more positivity than anyone could have imagined. Even in the throes of pain, her positivity and faith in God never wavered. The light she carried with her will be missed by so many who have loved her and carried her through this trial.

Megan was born October 19, 1972 in Olney, Maryland, the second child and first daughter to Douglas and Colleen (Fitzsimmons) Curran. They left the DC metro area when she was 4-years old, then the family moved to Laie, Hawaii. Living among the rich Polynesian culture during her most formative years would change the trajectory of her life forever. She was loved and quickly accepted and made to feel adopted into the Polynesian culture, which never left her.

With a change is circumstances, she left her heart in Hawaii and followed her parents to Orem, UT. She worked hard through school and had her sights set on returning to her beloved Hawaii. She attended BYU-HI after graduating from Orem High School in 1990.

After many years in Hawaii, she returned to UT to continue school and graduated from UVU with a Degree in Business and Human Resource Management which she put her heart into. Megan had her first son, Kalin, then later married Steven Menifee of California and gained three step-daughters, Ciara, Brittany and Lexi. Megan and Steve had a second son, Kai, and a daughter, Kiana. They later divorced, but remained close even until the end. She spent 20+ years working for Continental/United Airlines, which supported her love of travel, people, and would give her many opportunities for advancement in Utah and in Houston, TX for a short time. Her most recent employer was Ancestry.com who cared and loved her through her most difficult months of treatment. We as a family would like to express our gratitude to them and to all who have loved and supported our beloved Megan. We want to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for the way they cared for her since the beginning of her diagnosis in March of 2017. Megan was a member of the LDS Church and loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. She bore her testimony of the savior through music often; it is what got her through many difficult moments. Megan is survived by her three children, Kalin Malik Curran (Danzi), Kai Steven Curran, and Kiana Mekana Colleen Curran-Menifee, and their father Steve Menifee of California. Three granddaughters, Naveah Lynn Curran, Emy Rose Curran, and Sloane Monroe Curran. Megan is also survived by her mother, Mary Colleen Fitzsimmons Curran, as well as seven siblings, Quinn (Darlene) Curran, Shane (Sharon) Curran, Erin (David) Dean, Shannon (Ryan) Hadden, Caitilin (Kurt) Summerhays, Sean (Brianna) Curran, and Conn Curran and 11 nieces and nephews who loved their Auntie Megan and will miss her very much.
