Woman, children rescued after kayak flips in Little River
For the second time in three days, kayakers had to be rescued from the Little River in Spring Lake.
At about 10:30 a.m. Monday, firefighters pulled a mother and her two children to safety. The woman said they had tried to navigate around a tree limb in the water when the kayak tipped.
The rescue operation took about 20 minutes, and the woman and her children were unharmed.
On Saturday night, crews searching for a missing woman found her clinging to a tree along the river.
The woman, whose identity and age were not immediately released, was rushed for medical treatment to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center shortly after 6 p.m.
The woman and a man were in their kayaks in the river before both overturned. Police said the man was able to make it to the shore, but he was unable to find the woman.
Crews used a drone and searched on foot and by boat to find the woman in a 3-mile radius in the river.
Authorities found the woman, who was clinging to a tree in the river until crews arrived.
The man was not hurt during the incident, authorities said.
