January 17, 2018 GMT

MOUNT CARMEL - When it comes to winter weather and sports, the mixture can be like oil and water.

As predicted, the recent push of snow and ice that began to fall in the early morning hours last Friday morning has caused several postponements and cancellations affecting sports in Wabash County.

It all started last Friday night. Mount Carmel’s boy’s basketball team was set to play its final home game of the season at the Hilltop.

The Aces were scheduled to face Boonville on Senior Night but the game was postponed. A reschedule date of Saturday, Jan. 27 has been set for the Big Eight Conference contest.

The Aces are still in search of their first conference victory after losing to Vincennes Lincoln (44-31) and Princeton (52-34). Both games were at home.

Boonville is 1-1 in the league and just 3-7 overall. The Pioneers are currently riding a three-game losing streak. Their lone Big Eight win came courtesy of a 64-47 win against Mt. Vernon (IN).

Three teams are currently sitting with no losses in the Big Eight. Princeton is 3-0 and 10-2 overall. The Tigers are riding a five-game winning streak.

Jasper is 2-0 in the league and 5-4 overall as the Wildcats have won two straight. Washington is 1-0 in the conference and 4-6 overall.

Princeton hosting Washington Friday is the only scheduled conference game on the schedule for the weekend.

The Aces will compete starting tonight in the Carmi-White County tournament. The six-team Mid-Winter classic tournament was slated to start Monday but the games were postponed because of the weather.

The tournament has revised its schedule to accommodate the change.

Mount Carmel will take on Fairfield tonight at 7 o’clock. The Aces will then take on Harrisburg at 8:30 p.m. Friday before playing twice on Saturday.

The Aces will play at 10 a.m. against Mt. Vernon (IN) then again at 5 o’clock against Edwards County. The tournament will conclude Tuesday night as the Aces will play the host Bulldogs in the final game of the tournament at 8:30 p.m.

Lady Jr. Aces in regional championship

The Southern Indiana Junior High School Athletic Association is currently fielding its three respective class championships set to open this weekend at Rend Lake College in Ina.

Mount Carmel is trying to make the top eight of Class L but will have to defeat an undefeated Olney (23-0) to make it to RLC. The Aces lost twice to the Lady Cubs this season.

Mount Carmel is trying to make it three straight trips to RLC with the previous two encounters ending with a fourth-place trophy.

The Region 8 championship is slated to tipoff tonight at 7 p.m. The winner will face Du Quoin Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.

Lady Aces compete at LEWC

The Mount Carmel Lady Aces are currently taking part in Lady Eagle Winter Classic in Eldorado. The tournament started Saturday with the Lady Aces open the tournament with a 53-45 victory the host Eagles of Eldorado.

The Lady Aces were scheduled to face Anna-Jonesboro Monday but the game was canceled because of the weather. The decision was made to skip the Monday games and continue on with the rest of the games.

Mount Carmel will face Goreville at 5 p.m. tonight and then Vienna Friday, also at 5 o’clock.

If there are ties within the Pool, free throw percentage will be used to determine the games for Saturday.
