Furyk records first PGA Tour 58 at Travelers Championship
CROMWELL — Jim Furyk became the first golfer to shoot a 58 on the PGA Tour, finishing off a 12-under-par round Sunday morning at the Travelers Championship.
Furyk recorded 10 birdies, including seven in a row, and an eagle on the third hole to accomplish the feat.
He finished his round with a 2-foot par putt to a roar from the gallery on 18.
Furyk missed only one fairway and hit every green in regulation. He holed out from 135 yards for eagle on the third hole and made five birdie putts of 14 feet or longer.
He had been the sixth and last golfer to post a 59 on the PGA Tour, doing it at the 2013 BMW Championship.
Furyk, 45, tied for second at this year’s U.S. Open behind Dustin Johnson. His last tour win was at last year’s RBC Heritage in a playoff.
Furyk completed his round about 100 minutes before Daniel Berger, who leads the tournament at 15 under par, is set to tee off. Even with the 58, Furyk sat third when he finished, four shots behind Berger and one behind a three-way tie for second.
