Skiers taking warmup runs ahead of weekend competition
KILLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Tens of thousands of ski racing fans are expected in Vermont this weekend for the women’s World Cup races being held at the Killington ski resort.
The two-day competition begins Saturday with some of the best women skiers in the world.
The giant slalom will be held Saturday. The slalom is Sunday.
Among the competitors will be Colorado native, Burke Mountain Academy grad and Olympic Gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin.
Last weekend in Levi, Finland, Shiffrin set the World Cup record for most slalom wins by any ski racer.
The 24-year-old Shiffrin earned her 41st career slalom victory to top Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark, who won 40 slaloms between 1974 and 1987. Shiffrin amassed her total in just seven years.
