Sickle Cell Walk will be held in Greeleyville

GREELEYVILLE, S.C. – The Sickle Cell Anemia Disease Society of Williamsburg County will hold its seventh annual Sickle Cell Walk on Sept. 29 in Greeleyville.

The “Sickle Cell Disease: Finding the Cure” walk will start at 8:15 a.m. at the Greeleyville Kennedy Center at 241 Gourdin St. in Greeleyville.

Registration costs $10 and starts at 7 a.m. A kickoff ceremony will start at 7:30 a.m.

“As you may know, Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder that occurs more commonly in African-Americans,” said Vernell Graham, who has organized the walk with held from family, friends and neighbors. “I am committed to raising Sickle Cell Disease awareness and money for research as we struggle with a health care system that is sicker than the people it serves. To this end, I have undertaken one of the most daunting challenges of my life.”
