2018 La Porte City Golf Tournament
The 2018 La Porte City Golf Tournament at Beechwood Golf Course, sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, is upcoming. Participants must play a qualifying round by Sunday, Aug. 5, in an approved group. Results from the qualifying rounds of stroke play will flight the field. There will be a Senior Flight for those 60 years and older. The three-round match play tournament will be Aug. 10, 11, and 12 with tee times beginning at 11 a.m. The cost is $65 per player and 100 percent of the entry goes towards the prize pool and banquet on Sunday. WiffleBall championships coming to New Carlisle
New Carlisle will again host The Wiffle®Ball Championship during its Hometown Days festival this weekend, July 27-29. Promoters claim it’s the largest overhand wiffleball tournament in the nation, with 75 teams from across the Midwest. The weekend begins with the Home Run Derby at 6:05 p.m. (CDT) at Migley Field. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. (CDT) Saturday at the New Prairie Little League complex with 150 pool games played on 20 fields. Sunday’s Hometown Cup Playoffs begin at the Little League complex at 7 a.m. (CDT), with the Hometown Cup Finals at 12:20 p.m. (CDT). The Little League complex is at 300 W. World Series of Girls Fast Pitch Softball
Nearly 6,500 athletes, families and coaches are expected to attent the 2018 National Softball Association Girls Fast Pitch North/Central “B” and “C” World Series July 25-29 across Northwest Indiana, with games scheduled in Michigan City, La Porte, Crown Point, Highland, Hobart, Munster and Portage. More than 160 teams from across the Midwest and Canada will compete. Opening Ceremonies are from 6-9 p.m. July 25 at Festival Park in Hobart, with a parade, DJ and block party for the teams, coaches, family and friends. Games will begin at 8 a.m. at all locations from July 26-29, including Patriot Park in Michigan City, and Kespiong Park in La Porte. DeCamp’s Band of Brothers White Sox fundraiser
The DeCamp’s Band of Brothers Foundation has partnered with the Chicago White Sox and La Porte Park Foundation to host a fundraiser on Friday, July 27, as the Sox host the Toronto Blue Jays. The Sox will donate a portion of each discounted ticket sold through the promotion directly toward renovation of Clarke Park. USTA Junior Tennis league forming
Area teams are being put together for United State Tennis Association’s Junior Team Tennis, a coed league for ages 18 and under. Matches will be played Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Porter and Lake counties. The fee is $18 and USTA membership is not required. Triple Crown Baseball tryouts scheduled
Tryout schedules have been set for the 2018-19 Triple Crown Baseball seasons. Tryouts will be held: July 30 for 16U Threat; and July 31 for 10U Threat and 17-18U Threat.
