VP Mike Pence back in Texas
Vice President Mike Pence is back in Texas on Wednesday and Thursday to commemorate Hurricane Harvey making landfall nearly one year ago and to help U.S. Rep. John Culberson in his re-election bid.
Pence’s first stop will be in Rockport at noon, where he is scheduled to speak at the First Baptist Church of Rockport just a few miles from where Hurricane Harvey first made landfall at about 10 p.m. and devastated the city of about 11,000 people.
On Thursday, he travels to Houston to attend a fundraiser to help boost Culberson, a Houston Republican considered to be in one of the hottest re-election races in the nation. Culberson, first elected to Congress in 2000, is facing a challenge by Democrat Lizzie Pannill Fletcher in the 7th Congressional District, which is based largely in West Houston.
Pence later is scheduled to travel to Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center to deliver remarks about the Trump administrations policies related to NASA.
Pence’s visit comes just a week after U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was in Houston for separate events with U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee and Democrat Sylvia Garcia who is running for the 29th Congressional District.
