Lakeside wrestlers 3rd at Viking invitational
FOND DU LAC — Cole Lauersdorf won the 182-pound weight class to lead Lakeside Lutheran’s wrestlers to a third place finish at the Viking Invitational hosted by Winnebago Lutheran Academy on Saturday.
Lauersdorf (9-0) pinned Kiel’s Isaac Vandermeer in 3 minutes, 5 seconds, Xavier’s Sam Hawkins in 1:29, Oostburg’s Logan Bruggink in :49 and Fox Valley Lutheran’s Jacob Jungwirth in 1:38, then closed out the tournament with a 4-2 decision over Michael Endries from Kiel.
Riley Schmidt (126), Max Thiele (160) and Austin Meyer (220) each finished second.
Schmidt (7-2) went 4-1 with three pins and one decision. He lost by fall in his final match.
Thiele (6-2) went 3-1 with two pins and one decision. He also lost by fall in his final match.
Meyer (6-3) went 4-1 with all four wins coming by fall. He lost by fall in his third round match.
Joe Balistreri (195) took third. Balistreri (6-3) finished 3-2 with two pins and one decision. Jess Horta also took third at 132. He had two pins.
Nick Thomas (120) placed fourth, finishing 3-2 with three pins.
Isaiah Terry (120) finished fifth, going 2-3 with two pins. Heavyweight Brandon Kilian also finished fifth.
Jacob Horta (145) took sixth. He had one pin.
Lakeside Lutheran travels to Poynette for the Capitol North duals against Columbus, Lake Mills, Lodi and Poynette.
