Arrest made in Riverside burglary

December 10, 2018

GREENWICH — Police made an arrest in a commercial burglary at a Riverside business this fall.

Jose Antonio Vargas, 41, of Flower Street, Manchester, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.

Vargas was picked up an other criminal matter in Groton Dec. 9, and authorities there held him for Greenwich police.

Police said Vargas entered Tom’s Driving School on Sept. 7. Police were reviewing video surveillance and other evidence before an arrest warrant was issued. “There was an extensive investigation,” said Lt. John Slusarz, and the investigative file ran over 100 pages.

The business was entered, and “drawers and desks were opened.” It did not appear that anything of significant value was taken.

Bail was set at $200,000.
