Young voters turnout in large numbers in Cameron County

November 7, 2018 GMT

An increase in voter turnout lead to long lines on election night.

Cameron County Elections Administrator Remi Garza says 200 people were waiting in line in La Feria to vote when polls closed. As of 9:45 p.m. the last 15 voters had been processed to vote.

In Olmito, some voters waited two hours to cast their ballots.

Garza says during early voting there was considerable interest from new voters and that 6,000 to 8,000 of those voting early were young people 18 to 25 years old.
