Man found dead in backyard near Iller Creek identified as retired Providence Sacred Heart anesthesiologist
County medical examiners identified the man who was found dead in the backyard of his Spokane Valley home on Sunday as a retired Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center anesthesiologist, Rex. C. Porter.
Porter, 61, worked as a physician at Providence until his retirement a few months ago, according to Jennifer Semenza, spokesperson for the hospital. He worked as an anesthesiologist and operated his own practice in 2013 and 2014.
The cause and manner of death is pending, according to the medical assessor.
Sheriff’s deputies found Porter dead Sunday in the backyard of a house on the 2800 block of South Park Lane, near Iller Creek Conservation Area.
The house sits on nearly 11 acres of land, according to county property records.
Deputies were conducting a welfare check after a neighbor called to report a car with an open door sitting in the driveway and an open garage for multiple days, according to a news release from Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, they reportedly found the house in disarray.
A nonverbal, handicapped vulnerable adult was found inside the house. Medics provided care to the man, who was not named in the news release, before he was transported to the hospital.
Spokane County detectives are investigating the case.
