HANNOVER, Germany (AP) — Hannover striker Didier Ya Konan has been ruled out for the rest of the year following his ankle operation.

The Bundesliga club says Ya Konan underwent surgery on his left ankle in Basel, Switzerland on Monday, following a serious injury sustained in the side's 1-1 league draw with Hertha Berlin on Friday.

The club says the 29-year-old Ivory Coast forward will return to Hannover after appropriate post-operation care but will be sidelined for "a long time," unable to play again before the Bundesliga's winter break.

Ya Konan has scored 37 goals in 115 league appearances for Hannover since joining from Norwegian side Rosenborg in 2009.
