Bivins endorses Schmidt for Whiteside County sheriff
MORRISON – Outgoing state Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, who served 20 years as Lee County sheriff, is endorsing fellow Republican Sgt. Kris Schmidt in his Nov. 6 bid for Whiteside County sheriff.
Schmidt, 46, of Morrison, a 1990 Prophetstown High School graduate, was a member of the Air Force security police from 1990 to ’95 and was a DeWitt, Iowa, police officer before joining the Whiteside department in 2001.
“Kris is fair, honest and is committed to serving all citizens, and not special interests,” Bivins said in a news release announcing his endorsement.
“Kris is a seasoned veteran of law enforcement and a veteran of the Unites States Air Force and understands the meaning of service. Having six children of his own and living on a small farm, he understands family and community.”
Sheriff Kelly Wilhelmi, a Republican who endorsed Schmidt’s rival, Democratic candidate Lt. John Booker, is retiring after a decade in the position and 30 years with the department.
